Jeanette Walls reading and book signing

 Many attendees used the word "phenomenal" to describe Jeannette Walls conversation with Holland students, faculty, staff and community members.

As a part of the GVSU Community Reading Project, this New York Times best selling author spent an evening at the Holland campus to read, respond to questions, and sign copies of her memoir The Glass Castle.

There was no cost to attend the event, but many brought cleaning supplies to help support the services of the Center for Women in Transition
 

Tutoring through Blackboard

The tutoring center is using Blackboard in conjunction with tutoring.  If you have questions about math you can meet a tutor to access a real-time tutoring session through Blackboard. This is a great opportunity to seek a little extra help before finals.

Courses: MTH 201 and below
Topics: Any math-related questions or problems.
Dates: Wednesdays starting 3/12/08 until 4/16/08
Time: 9-10 PM
How: Self-register using the following steps.
Where: At any computer with internet access.

To Access the Blackboard Real-Time Tutoring Session:
1. Sign onto Blackboard using your student name/password
2. Click on ‘Community’
3. Then select ‘Browse Organization Category’
4. In the blank field to the right of ‘Name’ and ‘Contains’ type ‘Tutoring’
5. Click ‘Go’
6. To the right of Organization ID ‘GVTutoringCenter.arc Tutoring Center’ click ‘Enroll’
7. Click ‘Submit’
8. Click ‘Okay’ (this will bring you to the Tutoring Center forum where you will be able to join the session)

GVSU Children's Center Month of the Young Child

April is the Month of the Young Child, join the GVSU Children's Center to celebrate. They need you to read to young children, anytime and anywhere to help support their literacy campaign. All month long you are encouraged to read, read and read to young children and log on to their website to submit the total number of books read. You can read the same book more than once or you can choose a different book each time you read. Their goal is to have 1000 books read in and around the GVSU campus community between April 1st and April 30th. Heal with Teal 5K Run/Walk, April 19, 1:00pm sponsored by The Center for Women in Transition
Help CWIT raise awareness and prevention of sexual violence this month. Join the community for a pep rally at 12:45 before the run/walk at Centennial Park. The cost of the race is $15 and includes a long sleeve t-shirt. You can register online at www.aplaceforwomen.org or contact Adrienne Bailey at CWIT at (616) 494-1753. Or, you can pick up a teal ribbon from the Meijer Campus front desk to be a part of the Teal Ribbon Campaign. Wear your ribbon this month in recognition of CWIT’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Earth Day is April 22, check out www.epa.gov/earthday or www.earthday.gov for simple things you can do to protect the environment. Or, locally, you can check out DeGraaf Nature Center for events they are planning.

Internet Safety Training For Parents, April 22, 6:30-8:30pm hosted by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. Hear Detective Kerri Cannata talk about internet safety for parents at the Fillmore Complex, please RSVP by April 14 to: Kirsten Rahn at 616.396.2301 ext. 145 with your name, phone number and number of people attending.

West Michigan Strategic Alliance (WMSA), April 23rd, State of the Region
